Kyrgios Sheds Light On 'Brutal' Reality Of Being Called Bad Boy Of Tennis

by Evita Mueller

Nick Kyrgios has been called the bad boy of tennis for a very long time, and it's not a nickname he's really fond of.

Kyrgios is a character and an acquired taste. There is no point arguing against that, but all in all, he's not what many paint him to be. He looked bad because tennis is quite a rigid sport where emotion and passion are generally discouraged, which makes those who are a little bit passionate look bad.

There's a lot of passion in that man, and quite a few times, it boiled over. That and the way he handled things earlier in his career earned him the nickname 'Bad Boy of Tennis,' which he kind of embraced at the start but really grew to dislike over the years.

He was a guest on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, where he talked about many things, including that nickname. Being introduced and called that way is something Kyrgios heavily disliked, and it deeply affected him. He doesn't see himself in that light and it was a brutal realization for him.

To understand that it was how people generally perceived him. Over time, he grew as a person and dealt with his issues, so nowadays, it's just something that he leaves in the rear-view mirror.

That's how everyone in the world tht hasn't met me before assumes I am. And that's pretty brutal. I literally wanted to end my life and now I'm just here and enjoying it. Everything is just, it's all a bonus.

Kyrgios does seem to enjoy life right now, but there is one thing missing - tennis. He's yet to come back as his most recent withdrawal came just recently.

He won't be playing in Melbourne, so we'll need to wait and see where he does come back. Fans want to see him back, and he wants to be back, so let's see when it finally happens.
