Novak Djokovic is a highly motivated individual and has no problem admitting that records are his motivation.
There is obviously more to it because he doesn't just play to chase records. He plays because he genuinely loves tennis and has done it for most of his life. But, according to Djokovic, it would be wrong to say that he doesn't care about achievements and records.
In his mind, it's pretty normal to admit to that because, ultimately, competitive sports are all about winning. All players play because they want to win. Not all get to that level, but the motivation is the same for others.
While some might be uncomfortable with admitting that, Djokovic is pretty open about it and has been for a while. In a recent interview at the "60 Minutes", Djokovic confirmed that he does chase records.
I mean, for me, that’s completely normal. Like, being honest about it and being your authentic self, and expressing what you feel. I’m just trying to be true to myself and to others and say what my goals and objectives are. So it’s as simple as that.
Djokovic has always had that need to be genuinely himself. It's something he's very dedicated to and risked his legacy for. We all know his vaccine stands, but that was authentically him.
He opted to diminish his legacy, which he did by missing out on events, to remain true to himself. Hate it or love it, that's commendable and so rare nowadays. The Serbian is chasing records, and he has no problem admitting that.
The way he's been playing recently, he might run out of records to chase as he'll end up owning all of them but that speaks to his dedication and how incredible his career has been so far.
