'Bear With Me': Kyrgios Explains Australian Open Withdrawal

by Evita Mueller

Nick Kyrgios won't be playing at the 2024 Australian Open as he didn't recover in time, but he'll likely be in Melbourne as a commentator.

Kyrgios last played earlier this year at the Stuttgart Open, and it will end up being the only match he will play the whole year. That's pretty heartbreaking because this year was supposed to be one where he solidified himself as one of the best in the world.

He returned in style in 2022 but couldn't repeat it this year as injuries proved too much to overcome. He had a lot of fun off the courts, though, and proved in quite good spirits lately.

He opened an Only Fans account, where he ultimately broke the news about missing the Australian Open. Missing the event was described as heartbreaking as he has many great memories there, but ultimately, getting back is what matters most.

To do that, he had to give up on rushing playing in Australia to avoid getting injured again and prolonging the recovery time.

Obviously heartbreaking. I've had so many amazing memories there and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right and I need a little more time. I was so close to winning a Grand Slam—I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me.

Kyrgios genuinely believes that he can win a Grand Slam which is his ultimate goal. He's right, as he truly does have what it takes to win a Grand Slam but he needs to be fully healthy and playing his best tennis.

Hopefully, that happens once he returns because as some said, he's not coming back to just play. He's coming back to win the big one.
