20-years-old Italian enjoyed a great run at this year's Wimbledon, but now, Jannik Sinner was stopped by an injury ahead of the 2022 Hamburg Open.
Alongside Carlos Alcaraz, who he defeated in the All England Club, Jannik Sinner was one of the biggest favourites to triumph at the 2022 Hamburg Open. Now, his plans changed because of an injury and the Italian will take some time off.
During his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic, world number 10 was already 2-0 up against the top-seeded Serbian. Yet, he lost the match and also picked up an injury in the fourth set.
In an attempt to break his opponent in the fourth set, Sinner was chasing the short ball played by his opponent and unfortunately, he slipped on the grass and injured his ankle.
A few weeks later, the ankle is not healed yet and became the reason why the Italian was forced to withdraw from the ATP 500 event in Hamburg.
"After discussing with my team, we've come to the decision that I won't be playing in Hamburg. I slightly twisted my ankle when I fell during my quarterfinal at Wimbledon and as a precaution, we decided it was best to take some more time before my next event in Umag."
"I was looking forward to playing in Hamburg which is a city and event I like very much."
