It's been more than 5 years since Andy Murray was seeded at the Grand Slam tournament, but this year, the Scot can reach his goal and be seeded at the 2022 US Open.

The last time Andy Murray was seeded at a Grand Slam tournament, many current Top 10 members weren't even in Top 100 of the ATP Rankings. At the 2017 Wimbledon, the Scot was the first-seeded and lost in the quarterfinals. He was then supposed to enter the 2017 US Open as the second-seeded, but didn't enter the tournament due to an injury.

Five year later, he is learning how to have the best results with a metal hip and became a solid part of Top 100 of the ATP Rankings. A few weeks later, Murray expressed his desire to be seeded at Grand Slam tournaments and he might achieve that already at this year's US Open. When speaking to media, he said:

"I really want to try and improve my ranking to a level where I’m getting seeded in slams. That was a goal of mine sort of post Miami. I’ve spoken to my team a lot about that, and that’s something that I want to try and put myself in a position hopefully come the US Open."

“If not the US Open, then going into the Australian Open next year where I’m seeded again. That means obviously I’ll need to be out there competing and winning matches because it does make, like I said, things trickier.”

Currently, the Scot is ranked 52nd and misses just 20 spots to be ranked inside of the Top 32, who then become seeded at the US Open. If Murray succeeds and wins the tournament in Newport that he plays right now, he will move already to the 33rd place and he will be only 1 spot from being seeded.

However, if he doesn't win, his chances are still very high. He didn't play the ATP 1000 event in Canada last year and won only 1 match in Cincinnati. On the other hand, some of his opponents that are ranked above him defend quite a lot of points and so if the Scot gets at least into the quarterfinals in Montreal or Cincinnati, he should seal his spot as one of the Top 32 players.
