Bianca Andreescu is a fan of Novak Djokovic, and the Canadian revealed that she is gluten-free after reading his book Serve to Win.
It has been nearly three years since Andreescu's shock run to the US Open title in 2019. She stunned Serena Williams in the final, winning 6-3, 7-5, stopping the American from equaling Margaret Court's Grand Slam record in the process.
Injuries have hampered the Canadian's attempts to build on that success. She returned from six months out this April at the Stuttgart Open, winning her first match back against Jule Niemeier.
After a solid start on clay, she played superbly on grass at the Bad Homburg Open. Andreescu reached the final but lost a very close match to the Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 7-6, 4-6, 4-6.
The 22-year-old's successful comeback is a testament to her hard work and professionalism. She revealed that 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic inspires her to stay healthy off the court.
Speaking at a TSN event, Andreescu confirmed she is now gluten-free after reading Djokovic's book Serve to Win. The book outlines the ways Djokovic stays healthy, including his dietary choices.
"I'm a little bit of a fan girl, coz I've read his book. I'm gluten-free because of him. Thanks, but no thanks, because gluten is really good and I miss it a lot. But it's really changed my life for the better. Hopefully, I can talk to him more about it and we can like bounce ideas off each other and maybe start something. It would be cool."
Djokovic is a great person to be inspired by. The Serbian has discussed how cutting out gluten significantly impacted his success. Andreescu's choice to follow what works for Djokovic is entirely understandable.
The Canadian's next challenge is the North American hard court season, including her home tournament at the National Bank Open in Toronto.
