The 2025 US Open, scheduled from August 24th to September 7th, will be the final Grand Slam played this season, and the men's entry list for the prestigious tournament has already been unveiled.
After splitting the four Grand Slams in 2024, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have continued their domination of the most significant events in tennis this year and remained far ahead of other players.
Sinner retained his Australian Open crown, overcoming Alexander Zverev. The Italian then had triple match point in the fourth set of the 2025 French Open final against Alcaraz before the Spaniard launched an astonishing comeback to prevail in a deciding set tiebreak.
Rather than let that result impact him for the rest of the season, Sinner responded superbly at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. He recovered from losing the first set of the final against Alcaraz to get revenge for what happened at Roland Garros.
Sinner will be the man to beat again at this year's US Open after winning a maiden title at Flushing Meadows in 2024, comfortably defeating the home favorite Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets.
That success was particularly impressive because the ATP world No. 1's doping case, for which he ultimately served a three-month suspension, was announced a few days before the tournament began, and it must have been a significant mental barrier to overcome.
In contrast, Alcaraz suffered one of the most surprising losses of his professional career at last year's US Open. He exited in the second round in straight sets to Botic van de Zandschulp, who also beat Rafael Nadal in his final singles match before retirement.
Although van de Zandschulp played superbly, Alcaraz's poor level in that match was undoubtedly influenced by losing the Olympic Gold Medal match to Novak Djokovic a few weeks prior. The 22-year-old will try to avoid a similar hangover after the Wimbledon final.
Novak Djokovic's third-round exit to Alexei Popyrin at the 2024 US Open was also shocking. While Alcaraz was mentally impacted by failing to secure an Olympic Gold Medal, Djokovic seemed to struggle for motivation after one of the best moments of his career.
The tennis legend's last major title was at the 2023 US Open. Sinner and Alcaraz winning the last seven Grand Slams means expectations will be lower for Djokovic than in previous years, but he should never be written off.
Nick Kyrgios is on the US Open entry list with a protected ranking. The Australian returned from a lengthy time on the sidelines at the start of 2025, but missed the entire grass-court swing after a physical setback. He plans to return at the 2025 Citi Open.
Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe are among the home hopes for the tournament, alongside Fritz. Shelton lost the 2023 semifinal to Novak Djokovic, while Tiafoe suffered an agonizing defeat in a fifth set to Fritz last year.
Alexander Zverev, the 2020 runner-up at Flushing Meadows, will continue his quest for a maiden Grand Slam at this year's iteration of the event. There has been recent speculation about him working with Rafael Nadal and Toni Nadal.
2021 champion Daniil Medvedev, Jack Draper, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, and Casper Ruud are among the other players on the 2025 US Open entry list.
