Alexander Zverev is still trying to return to his top form and he recently spoke about his path to the top.

It's always difficult when a player spends a very long time away from the sport that they've been doing ever since they can remember. Zverev experienced this after a horrific injury that he picked up at last year's Roland Garros.

Now, he's on the way to becoming a Top 10 member again, but more importantly, becoming the best version of himself on the tennis court. Speaking on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast about his comeback, the German said:

"I've been on Tour for 10 years now, so. It’s kind of been a break, I’ve been injured, not dead so I’ve not been reborn again or something like that. It’s still the same old me and I still want to win these tournaments and I’m going to do everything I can to do so."

It's never easy for a player to come back and immediately start playing at their best. Dominic Thiem is a prime example of this and Zverev knows it because he has a very good relationship with the Austrian, who he lost to in the 2020 US Open final.

"I think you see it again and again, after injuries how long people struggle for. I think you can see it with Dominic [Thiem] a little bit now, he's been struggling for a while now. You can see it with Andy [Murray] when he first had his hip issues he was struggling for a long time. So, it takes time, so I'm happy I'm on the right path."

After mentioning that he's been traveling on the ATP Tour for 10 years now, Zverev was also asked about how he approached his time spent on the tennis courts now, especially after the injury that kept him away from the sport for so long.

"I think you start appreciating it a bit more again because when you're there in this circle every day, you forget how special it is. And how special it is to play in front of 20000 people and play against the biggest names in the sport."
