Carlos Alcaraz won the title in Cincinnati, and if he wanted to compete in the mixed doubles event at the US Open, he quickly needed to pack his bags and leave the city.
When the dates for the new format of the mixed doubles event at the US Open were announced, it was immediately clear that it would be challenging for the finalists of the Cincinnati Open to compete at the event.
Despite the initial skepticism, Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek both appeared on a private jet together, flying to New York after winning titles in Cincinnati. But does it mean they will both compete at the mixed doubles event?
After winning the title in Cincinnati, which took Alcaraz only 20 minutes since Jannik Sinner retired in the first set, the Spaniard faced a question about the short turnaround.
The draw for the mixed doubles event has already been made, and Alcaraz, who will team up with Emma Raducanu, will take on the first-seeded team of Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula.
Despite the short turnaround, it seems that Alcaraz plans to compete at the event. Speaking after his victory at the ATP Masters 1000 event, he mentioned that he wouldn't probably sleep a lot, but certainly didn't mention the word "withdrawal."
"I think it is good. I mean, the scheduling is not the best, playing tomorrow. But the concept of the mixed doubles tournament, I love it. I think it's going to be something new for me, which I love, I'm going to have so much fun playing there, playing with Emma [Raducanu]. It's going to be tough against [Jack] Draper and [Jessica] Pegula."
Alcaraz also admitted that he will take the tournament as his first step in preparation for the US Open. He wants to test out the Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he will probably play a lot this year, as well as the conditions in New York.
"But I will try to enjoy as much as I can. I will try to see how the court, the balls are going to be. I will treat it as an important and good preparation for me. So, I will try to be at my best tomorrow after the trip to New York."
"I'm probably going to sleep late, but I will try to put my best tennis to help Emma get the win, and then let's see if we will get it, but I think it's going to be fun, and great to have those matches."

Alcaraz to be the top favorite heading into the US Open

Before the Cincinnati Open, it seemed that Jannik Sinner might be the favorite at the US Open, especially since he will be the defending champion, having won the event last year.
However, the final of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati slightly changed the perception of the upcoming Grand Slam, and Alcaraz's chances of winning the event have significantly improved.
