The four Grand Slams are always the most important tournaments on the calendar, but the 2025
US Open will offer players incredible financial incentives to perform well.
Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka won the men's and women's singles at the 2024 US Open, their maiden titles at the season's final Grand Slam. They also received a significant amount of money from the tournament.
Sinner and Sabalenka had $3,600,000 added to their bank accounts for being the best players at the historic event.
Taylor Fritz and
Jessica Pegula, the runners-up, received $1,800,000.
Keeping last year's impressive
prize money pot would have already been a great reward for the players.
Coco Gauff, who recently
broke an unfortunate personal record, Carlos Alcaraz,
Novak Djokovic, and
Iga Swiatek are among the other players vying for the title.
Rather than risking any stagnation, the US Open organizers have made an effort to give players a higher percentage of the revenue generated. The prize money pot will be $90,000,000 at this year's event, running from August 25th until September 7th, up from last year's $75,000,000.
ATP and
WTA players are awarded equal prize money at all the Grand Slams. However, the ranking points differ slightly for some of the rounds, with the WTA being more generous for a few of the earlier rounds.
The men's and women's singles champions will earn an incredible $5,000,000 for their efforts. Ranking points for the winners are the same on the ATP and WTA Tour, meaning each titlist is guaranteed 2,000 ranking points.
Both runner-ups get 1,300 points. The defeated finalists at this year's US Open will earn $2,500,000. That is more than most of the winners have gotten in the tournament's history, showing the effort organizers have made.
Ranking points start to differ from the semifinals. ATP players who reach that point receive 800 points compared to 780 for WTA stars. The male and female losing semifinalists are set to collect $1,260,000.
WTA players benefit more at the quarterfinal stage, getting 430 points compared to 400 for those from the ATP. Being among the best eight players in the men's or women's singles earns $660,000.
$400,000 will be given to all the singles players who progress to the round of 16, an impressive amount for winning three main-draw matches. 240 and 200 are the respective ranking point awards for WTA and ATP players.
The women who are knocked out in the round of 32 are guaranteed 130 ranking points, compared to the ATP's 100. The 16 players who fall at that stage of the tournament will receive $237,000.
$154,000 and $110,000 are the financial offerings in the opening two rounds of this year's US Open. The women will get 70 points for the round of 64 compared to the men's 50, and all those who lose in the opening round receive 10 points.
The US Open's significant increase in prize money could be partially due to
the top players signing a letter earlier this season asking to meet with Grand Slam organizers about the low percentage of revenue given to them.
