Injured Stefanos Tsitsipas Withdraws From 2023 Laver Cup

The depleted Team Europe at the 2023 Laver Cup is losing more star power as Stefanos Tsitsipas is out of the event due to an injury.

Tsitsipas was the most experienced player in Team Europe at the 2023 Laver Cup, attending multiple events of the popular exhibition before. However, he will miss the competition this year due to an injury, which wasn't disclosed.

He was in action just recently in the 2023 Davis Cup, playing for Greece, but he didn't look that good, losing one singles and one doubles match, while winning only once in singles. It isn't very pleasant for Tsitsipas because the Laver Cup is one of his favourite tennis events by his own admission, so not being able to play is not great fun.

It's not good for Team Europe either, as they're severely lacking some star power. It will make the revenge for last year's defeat that much harder, and that's the team's main goal. Team Europe surprisingly lost last year, so many fans were hopeful that they could turn it around, but it's not likely with the late withdrawals of Holger Rune and Tsitsipas.

The Greek was excited about this edition, hoping to use his experience and lead the team to a victory, but he will be watching from home.

Fans weren't excited for the lineup anyway, and it's unlikely they will be mesmerised by this one either, as many of the Top 10 members in the ATP Rankings are now gone. Currently, Team Europe consists of Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Gael Monfils, and Arthur Fils, who replaced the Greek player.

Not many of them have played in the competition before, and being in Vancouver means they're up against a hostile crowd.

Team World doesn't have the strongest team either, but they have good players like Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, rising star Ben Shelton, and, of course, Canadians Milos Raonic and Felix Auger-Aliassime. The event will run from September 22nd till the 24th.
