Jannik Sinner will take on Novak Djokovic for a spot in the Wimbledon final and he expects to do better than last year.
Sinner has been playing some really solid tennis at this year's Wimbledon, but it must be said that his draw has been the easiest out of all semifinalists. Most of the seeds in his part of the draw crashed out relatively early leaving him to play Roman Safiullin in the quarter-finals.
The Russian is a solid player but was one of the easier opponents in the draw at that point in the event. Last year's run was a bit more impressive from Sinner as he took down Carlos Alcaraz among others, and put a lot of pressure on Novak Djokovic. He did lose in the end, but speaking to Eurosport ahead of their rematch, Sinner expressed confidence.
I am going to watch [last year’s quarter-final], knowing that it is going to be a completely different match, because I am different but I feel like also he has improved. “He is playing much better, so it's going to be a very tactical match.
Let's see how the situation is going to be - if we play with the roof closed if it's raining, if there is sun, if it's windy, all these kinds of things. I'm very happy that I can face him again.
Sinner has had some really great moments like the run to the Miami Open final and even though he lost the improvement he's sowing matters to him. Even now, making the semi-final is a step in the right direction and that's what matters.
It means a lot, many hours of work on the court and sacrifices, and it feels good. In the other way, the tournament is not finished. I’m happy, I'm pleased that I can play my first semi-final here in this special court against a very special player. I'm looking forward to and hopefully it's going to be a good match.
