Jannik Sinner is finally through to the Wimbledon semi-final after falling short in the past and it comes after a win over Roman Safiullin.
The Italian has a good game for grass as he likes to attack and plays pretty flat and he proved it last year with some impressive wins. He was the player that came closest to beating Djokovic at the event and he might have a chance to try again if Djokovic beats Rublev.
Sinner has had some impressive performances this year but also some massive disappointments. This run at Wimbledon is good on paper but realistically he didn't really face that many great players. The draw cleared for him nicely and he used to cruise towards the semi-final as many expected him to.
This match was a pretty interesting one as he faced a player that was never this deep in a Grand Slam and ultimately that lack of experience hurt the Russian. Sinner took the opening set behind some solid play but mostly the 8-winner 4 unforced errors line.
Safiulling stormed back in the second set even though Sinner was up a break. The Italian was up 3-1 but lost the set 3-6 after spamming several errors in very costly situations. The Carota Boys were probably stunned by what happened but Sinner is prone to these sudden lapses in level as he is incredibly streaky.
He proved it in the next set coming out with a lot of determination to produce a sensational level and win the set 6-2. It took him a little over 30 minutes to get that done and the same thing happened in the next set as well. Once again a stunning level and once again a little over 30 minutes.
The final score was 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-2 for the Italian who had 14 aces, 36 winners, and only 20 unforced errors. A spectacular result for the Italian whose Wimbledon was a bit in doubt leading up to it.
