Nick Kyrgios is relishing the challenge of going up against Daniil Medvedev in the second-round of Montreal.

Coming out on top against Argentinian Sebastien Baez 6-4, 6-4 in the first-round of Montreal, Aussie Nick Kyrgios is set to take on world number 1 Daniil Medvedev in the second-round.

After firing on all cylinders against Baez and being able to maintain that rhythm and consistency throughout the entire 1 hour 25 minute encounter.

Encouraged by his performance coming off the back of a long week in Washington, the man from Down Under is eager to continue this momentum into his next match-up with Medvedev. Speaking post-match, he looked ahead to the next-round:

“Physically I feel fine. Mentally just so tired. I haven’t had much sleep the past couple of days, but I am trying to put that behind me already. I am in Montreal and I haven’t played great tennis in Montreal in the past, so I wanted to come out here today and get that match up against Medvedev next. It will be a lot of fun. I just want to create some good memories in Montreal.”

The head-to-head between the two is in favour of Kyrgios, with the Australian leading 2-1 going into it. The most recent of these affairs was at Kyrgios' home Slam, with the Russian overcoming Kyrgios.

However, this most recent result is not anywhere near Kyrgios' thoughts at this time, with him relishing the opportunity to judge where his current game is at:

"Medvedev is a hell of a player. His style is so unorthodox, he is a great competitor and he is just an animal. I am looking forward to seeing where I am at.”

At this crucial stage of the season, every win is worth its weight in gold. Not only are there Masters 1000 tournaments everywhere you look, but there is also a Grand Slam to prepare for.
