Emma Raducanu recently broke into the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings for the first time in her career, but her stay there may be very short.

Raducanu entered the Top 10 on the WTA Tour on July 11th, 2022, which was less than a month ago. She managed to climb up the rankings, as she didn't have a lot of points to defend during he season.

Soon, however, Raducanu will defend 2,000 points from her last year's US Open triumph. But before that, the teenager has a chance to add as many points as possible at events leading up to the fourth Grand Slam of the season.

However, she couldn't do that at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto. The ninth seed lost already in the first round of the tournament to Camila Giorgi, who won 7-6(0), 6-2, eliminating the British player.

As a result, there are now seven players who can push Raducanu out of the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings, but five are much closer to it than the other two. Karolina Pliskova and Jul Teichmann will need to win the event if they want to surpass the British sensation.

Belinda Bencic, Coco Gauff, Leylah Fernandez, Simona Halep, and Jelena Ostapenko are much closer. The Swiss player, who is currently ranked 12th, needs only two more wins at the Canadian Open, and she will have more points than Raducanu.

Gauff and Fernandez will need to reach the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament to surpass Raducanu, while Halep and Ostapenko will need a final appearance.

Yet, Raducanu still has a real chance of staying in the Top 10 and adding more points at another WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati and prolonging her stay in the Top 10. After that, however, she won't avoid the challenging task of defending her 2,000 points in New York.
