Current US No. 1, Taylor Fritz, has been vocal on social media this week about a dodgy line call in an American college-level tennis game.
In a bizarre set of events, a student from Radford University was caught on camera calling a ball out even though it landed in the middle of the court.
His opponents appears to accept the evidently false call, and with no umpire present to intervene, it appears the student got away with the blatant and deliberate false call.
Such a strange occurrence had gained the attention of social media, prompting former college player Fritz to voice his opinions on the matter.
I was an overly nice line caller in juniors but honestly when someone was cheating me really bad this is how I handled it, call a random ball out and they won't mess with you again. Is that what's happening here? Who knows... but if this call is unprovoked, then that's disgusting
It is uncertain whether the poor call, capture on camera, was a response to a similar false call from his opponent, something which Fritz appears to concede may be a possibility.
It's gotta be a 'make it even call' has always been the best way to deal with cheaters. If someone purposefully hooks you badly first, then it's all fair game in my opinion. But when I get hooked, I will do this back to them and then go get the umpire
Whatever the case, a simply bizarre line call between two college-level US tennis players has caught the attention of the wider tennis world and, in particular, Taylor Fritz.
Fritz has bigger things on his mind currently, however, as he prepares to take on fellow American Jack Sock at ATP level, following Sock's epic victory over Belarusian Ivashka.
