'I Was Trying To Stay Focused': Medvedev On Celebrities Attending US Open

| by Jake Davies

Daniil Medvedev talked through the difficulties of keeping his concentration in check when discovering the plethora of celebrities attending his most recent US Open semi-final victory.

Medvedev was in excellent form in his four set win over Carlos Alcaraz. He stayed consistent from the baseline, surprised his opponent by how early he was taking the ball in comparison to other matches and he limited the errors on his weaker forehand, that groundstroke look totally transformed.

As much as the Russian was superb on the court during his performance, he was also in good spirits afterwards in his post-match press conference. He talked about the fundamentals that needed to work in order for him to win and what was key to victory.

"Talking about Carlos, I'm happy, because in Indian Wells and Wimbledon he used well my return position from the back. I felt like even returning from the back I can cause him trouble and I managed to prove it today."

Often during a night session match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, there is a whole host of star names that attend the big matches at the US Open. Today was no different as Medvedev jokingly talked about struggling to maintain focus because of the presence of some celebrities.

"True, there were a lot of celebrities they were showing all the time. I was trying to stay focused but I was like Who is there? Who is the next one? I think I saw everybody who was there and some of them were pretty big stars. That's cool to see people enjoy tennis. That's amazing, because that's the sport I love. So to see people I see on the TV and some of them I'm a fan, it's great to see them enjoy such a great match."

Medvedev is chasing his second US Open triumph but will need to go through Novak Djokovic, who will not go away without a huge fight.
