Holger Rune vs Miomir Kecmanovic: 2023 Swiss Indoors Basel - Preview & Prediction

A few days after losing to Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening match of his Stockholm Open campaign, Holger Rune will have a chance to face him again at the 2023 Swiss Indoors.
Obviously, losing again would be catastrophic for Rune, who is fighting for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin. The way his season began and how it was going for a while, Rune missing the ATP Finals in Turin was unthinkable.
He was Top 5 in the race easily for the first six months but then started losing after Wimbledon. He lost 10 of 11 matches he played, with his lone win coming against Felix Auger-Aliassime at the China Open.
Even a move indoors didn't really do much, as he lost to Miomir Kecmanovic in the first match he played in Stockholm. It was another terrible loss for the Dane, who recently hired Boris Becker in hopes of turning things around.
We'll see if he can do it in Basel because he played really well at the event last year. But then again he won Stockholm last year and it didn't help.
Head-to-head:
The two have played one match so far, and it happened literally days ago in Stockholm. Rune held his own in the opening set but then struggled as the match went on, allowing Kecmanovic to win. It was a better effort compared to his previous ones, but still not good enough.
He'll have an edge here because he arrived sooner than Kecmanovic, and perhaps those one or two practices finally mean something. He's desperately needing a win.
Prediction:
Whether he truly gets it remains to be seen. Kecmanovic did a really solid job of countering everything he does well in Stockholm. I think we might see something different this time around as I believe Rune will finally win one.
Prediction: Holger Rune to win in two sets.
