Holger Rune has provided an injury update showing himself on the tennis court lightly practicing after his withdrawal from the 2023 Croatia Open.
The Danish player has been pretty good for much of this year, playing consistently solid tennis which is what kept him ranked inside the Top 10 on the ATP Tour. He's also made some big improvements on grass which he showed off with a solid run at Wimbledon this year that was ended by Carlos Alcaraz.
Rune hopes to continue playing well in the coming months and solidifying his ranking, which would ensure his participation at the ATP Finals in Turin. He's currently 7th in the Race, so there is more work to be done. His most recent event was the Hopman Cup, where he played the worst tennis all year.
He played badly because he was actually sick and dealt with some back issues as well. He withdrew from Umag to focus on getting better and now provided an update on social media explaining that he's feeling much better now.
Hi everyone. Monday I had a scan on my back and are now getting various treatments and have started controlled practice and it’s much better than last week. So I continue treatment and hope that I will be fit for fight to compete in Canada. I am hungry to work.
— Rune provides an update on Twitter<br>As Rune specified, the goal right now will be to continue getting treatment and practicing in order to prepare well for the Canadian Open. He's got time, but it's not much time since the event begins on August 7th. Rune will remain in Monaco for the time being and prepare for the event as best as he can.
If he gets cleared he'll make his way to Canada for the Canadian Open. There isn't really a big chance that Rune misses the event, but we'll see. The US Open is not far away and forcing the issue wouldn't be worth it.
