'Here To Win Wimbledon': Tiafoe Confident Of His Qualities On Grass

| by Kadir Macar

Frances Tiafoe wants to win Wimbledon which isn't unique in itself but the American is probably one of those that could truly do it.

Tiafoe winning Wimbledon would be a spectacle not only because it would be unexpected but because the American generally makes his matches a spectacle. His run at the US Open last year was utterly incredible as he narrowly missed out on going all the way.

He hasn't been shy about his ambitions this year elevating them to a much higher level. His seriousness about it was visible on the court in the way he approached matches. He's won two ATP trophies this year (one on grass) and made it to the Top 10 becoming the first African American player in the Top 10 in 14 years. He's not satisfied with that, he wants to win the big one.

I'm here for one reason, try and win Wimbledon. I'm not hiding from that. I feel like I'm one of the best players in the world, especially on the grass. When I'm at my best I'm a tough out for everybody. See what happens.

Tiafoe has been pretty good on grass this year. He won Stuttgart but then lost in Queen's and at the Hurlingham exhibition to Djokovic. Winning Wimbledon was always something he wanted to do, especially after watching Serena and Venus do it.

I remember being a kid and watching Serena and Venus playing finals. Wimbledon was always, I was like man, someone of colour playing in a predominantly white sport and playing at Wimbledon is crazy. That's what I want to do.

You can feel it. You walk on site, everything is so pristine, you don't wanna swear, you don't want to hit your racquet on the grass. You can feel it anytime you're there. I'm happy that I get to participate, I'm happy I have a chance to do something special and I'm ready to get going.
