Gauff & Pegula Withdraw From Their Semifinal Match In Eastbourne

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula withdrew from their Eastbourne International doubles semi-final presumably to focus on their respective upcoming matches at Wimbledon.

Pegula has been out of the singles event since Thursday as she lost to fellow American and doubles partner Coco Gauff. It was a competitive match but also one in which Pegula didn't use her chances, more precisely the 3-0 lead in the second set.

Gauff followed her in exiting from the event in singles one day later getting beaten in two sets by fellow American Madison Keys. Both of them remained in the doubles together however they pulled out of the semi-final match against Desirae Krawczyk and Demi Schuurs on the day of the match.

Fans started to speculate about the reason why they abandoned plans of playing but it's likely to do with Gauff now being able to go to London and prepare for Wimbledon. If she won the match she would have played in the final on Saturday which means that they might have played the match. This way they both can go to London and focus on Wimbledon.

Neither player spoke about the decision to pull out after it happened but it's quite clear that both are turning their attention to Wimbledon. It's only natural, it's a big event for both, more so Gauff who has high hopes for the event after some good wins in Eastbourne.

Gauff has a pretty tough draw having to play another American - Sofia Kenin. It will be her 3rd consecutive match that she's facing an American and 4th time out of her 5 last matches. Pegula has a bit of an easier draw though she too is playing a fellow American.

It's Lauren Davis, a tricky player who can give you trouble if you're not careful enough. Davis has more wins on grass then Pegula in her career.
