'Fake News': Djokovic Denies Negotiating To Buy Late Spanish Star's Club In Marbella

Novak Djokovic took to social media to publicly dispel reports linking him to the potential acquisition of a famous tennis club in Marbella owned by the late Manolo Santana.

Manolo Santana is among the best Spanish tennis players of all time. He won all five of his Grand Slams (one in doubles) before the Open Era began and was an amateur World No. 1 back in 1965.

After he retired, he held various roles within the tennis perimeter, most notably when he served as the tournament director of the Madrid Open for many years until he stepped down in 2019 to become the Masters 1000 tournament's Honorary President.

Santana passed away in December 2021, aged 83. Since his demise, one of his properties - the Manolo Santana Racquets Club - has not been distributed, and the facilities have not been preserved.

According to a report published by Antena 3, the responsibility of running the club's affairs is vested in Claudia Ines Rodriguez - his widow - and his son. Still, both are struggling with the operations because the facilities are in "terrible" condition.

The eponymous tennis centre is in Marbella, where Novak Djokovic owns a holiday mansion. The rumor in circulation alluded that the Serbian star was now willing to help the Santana family and preserve the legacy of one of the sport's most famous legends.

Djokovic denied reports that he was negotiating with Manolo Santana's widow to buy the club and shared his response on X by quoting the tweet to the original article.

Djokovic is currently in Marbella, where he recently kickstarted his 2024 preparations by training at the Puente Romano Tennis Centre. He is expected to fly to the Middle East in the coming days, where he will set up a training block in Dubai before eventually going to Saudi Arabia to play Carlos Alcaraz in an exhibition match.
