Djokovic Reveals Plans To Challenge Alcaraz For Year-End No. 1 Spot

Novak Djokovic has some clear goals for the rest of the year, and one of them is to finish as the year-end No. 1 on the ATP Tour.

Last year, it was Carlos Alcaraz who finished the year as world number one, something that Djokovic praised him for, especially considering that the Spaniard was still a teenager at the time.

The Serbian deemed him the most deserving player of that honour after producing a sensational breakout year. Some argued that Djokovic's triumph at the ATP Finals proved that he was the true number one.

In ways, it makes sense, but the Serbian also missed a lot of events that year, which allowed Alcaraz to gather enough points to finish ahead of him. This year is a bit different as Djokovic leads as of right now, but Alcaraz will have a chance to finish as year-end No. 1 as well.

My greatest motivation is still love for the game. I really like competing. So as simple as that. Then, you know, I always have goals, you know, and to win another slam, to be No. 1 again, to finish the year as No. 1.

Djokovic on motivation and his goals

Ahead of the 2023 Paris Masters, the Serbian admitted that he is targeting this year-end No. 1 ranking, among other things. There is a pretty decent shot. He gets it because he has been a superb player indoors for many years now.

He's won in Paris a couple of times and absolutely dominated the ATP Finals last year. He also has other goals, namely the Davis Cup, which he'll take part in, as well as the Olympic Games next year in Paris.

That's one of his big dreams, as he never won a gold medal for his country.

Those are let's say the big goals. Of course next year is Olympic Games. I really want to do well in Olympic Games, represent my country. Davis Cup is something that still gives me a lot of inspiration.
