Djokovic Could Keep Winning But 'Question Is Whether Desire Will Still Be There'

Former top 10 ATP player Lucas Pouille thinks that Novak Djokovic is clearly the greatest player of all time after his most recent exploits.

Whether Djokovic is the greatest player of all time matters little, but it's a topic tennis enthusiasts like to tackle. While some sports have an undisputed 'GOAT,' most of them have a bit of blur and rely heavily on personal bias.

Some people like Djokovic, some like Rafael Nadal, and some like Roger Federer, and that will never change. There could be a statistical consensus eventually, but you'll always have individuals picking personal favourites ahead of whatever statistics say.

When it comes to former Top 10 player Lucas Pouille, he's backing Djokovic simply because the numbers by now are too impressive to ignore.

Today, he is 36 years old, he has 19, 20 years of career, he has almost 100 titles and he is still just as hungry and what is extraordinary is that he still seems the freshest on the ground. I think he can play for two, three or even four more years. The question is rather whether the desire will still be there.

The desire to continue to make all these efforts, these sacrifices to be at the highest level. But for me, he still has the energy to play for a very long time. Is Novak Djokovic the greatest? Yes, well yes, the figures speak for themselves. For me, yes, it’s the biggest. He’s the GOAT as they say.

These are likely the least controversial takes Pouille will ever have because he'll find millions who agree with him. Even his rival Rafael Nadal admitted recently that Djokovic is the greatest in history regarding trophies, which is a nifty way to phrase it.

He statistically is but does that make him the most impactful?
