For the second time in a few years, Novak Djokovic will take on Daniil Medvedev in a US Open final, so how will this one go?
The last one happened in 2021 when Djokovic was trying to complete the Calendar Grand Slam. He didn't get it done the last time they played because he was overwhelmed by pressure. He spoke a few times after that, admitting that there won't be the same pressure this time around.
He's just trying to match Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam record; no big deal. The opponent is a tough one, as it's Daniil Medvedev. It's a player who likely won't care at all that he's playing Djokovic, especially after beating him on this very court two years ago.
He certainly didn't care about playing Carlos Alcaraz and produced one of his best performances in months to win the match. He can certainly do that against Djokovic as well, as he's done it five times so far, including once this year.
Head-to-head:
We've seen this matchup a few times already on the ATP Tour. Djokovic leads the H2H 9-5, which is expected, but the Russian scored some pretty good wins over the Serbian. His only Grand Slam trophy came that way, and they will play again on the same court.
Prediction:
The crucial thing for Medvedev's last win over Djokovic at the US Open was the serve. The Russian was just amazing with his serve, giving Djokovic very little to work with. I don't think he's serving at that level this time around, so it will surely be tougher.
Djokovic is playing a bit more aggressively and will likely attack Medvedev, so we'll see how he handles that. The conditions work for both, but I think we will see the best out of Djokovic.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in four sets.
