Casper Ruud vs Cameron Norrie: 2024 Australian Open - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Casper Ruud is looking pretty solid this year, and he'll put it to the test against Cameron Norrie at the 2024 Australian Open.

Norrie grew up in New Zealand, essentially calling Auckland home for much of his life. Despite coming from Oceania, Norrie performed poorly in Australia in the past. In fact, his best result came last year when he made the third round, the same stage as this year.

Ruud grew up far from Australia, but he's been pretty solid Down Under. He made the fourth round in 2021 despite not being the best hard-court player. He didn't play well last year, but that was mostly due to his tragic off-season, a mistake that he won't make again.

Both played before this event and looked good, though neither currently looks like a contender for the title in Melbourne.

Head-to-head:

Ruud and Norrie played a couple of times, but Norrie is still searching for his first win. They never played on clay courts either, so oddly, this score is quite surprising. The first match came in 2021 in San Diego, and Ruud won convincingly 6-0, 6-2. It was a final, too.

The second match came at the ATP Finals some time later, and Ruud won again, but this time the score was 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Their final meeting came in 2022 in Miami, with Ruud winning 6-3, 6-4. It's been a while since they played, but the H2H doesn't lie.

Casper Ruud Cameron Norrie
3 H2H 0
11 Rank 22
25 Age 28
5-0 2024 W/L 4-2
213-115 Career W/L 194-139

Prediction:

In light of the matchup and how efficiently Ruud was able to dominate against Norrie, backing the Brit here seems like wishful thinking. If we look at their performances so far at the event, it seems like the right side, too, so back Ruud to win.

Prediction: Casper Ruud to win in four sets.
