Casper Ruud Joins Team Europe For 2023 Laver Cup

by Balasz Virag

The 2023 Laver Cup will see Team World try and defend the first trophy they won at the Laver Cup though Europe will have Casper Ruud in the team.

The Laver Cup has become one of the most popular ATP events in the world due to the unique format and generally exciting field of players. This year's edition will see Team World host the event and it will be played in Vancouver, Canada which should be an interesting experience.

A few players have been announced already with Ruud becoming the 4th Team Europe player to be announced. Holger Rune will be part of the team this year, as well as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev, even though there won't be Daniil Medvedev for Europe. Team Captain Borg is happy to welcome a fellow Scandinavian into the team:

Casper is an exceptionally talented and dedicated young athlete making his way to the top of the sport. I have no doubt he will break through to win a major soon. He has proven himself to be such an asset for Team Europe as a player and a teammate. It’s a privilege to have him back on the blue team.

Rudu has played for Team Europe in the past, taking part in 2021 when the event was played in Boston. It was a good experience for him as he earned points for his team in an epic beatdown for the European side. He's motivated to play for the team once more so he can bring the trophy back to Europe.

It has been an honor competing for Team Europe these past two years, playing on the same team with an unbelievable group of champions, and with Bjorn Borg as our captain. I have gained so much from the experience. In Vancouver my goal will be to do all I can to help Team Europe win back the Cup.
