Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev: 2023 ATP Finals - Preview & Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev had some solid battles, and another one is coming up at the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin.

While Alcaraz's participation in Turin was never really in doubt after a good start to the year, Zverev had to labor far more. It came down to the final few weeks for the German, who actually signed up late for the Sofia Open after crashing out early from Paris.

He would send it back one day later after he qualified, thanks to the losses of other players in Paris as well, but it showed how long he had to wait to finally relax. He deserves a place there because he had a really solid season overall, considering that he returned from a gruesome injury earlier this year.

Head-to-head:

The head-to-head is pretty equal so far. They both have three wins a piece. The most recent match happened at the US Open, which Alcaraz won comfortably in three sets. It's not the best matchup for Zverev, but he has ways to counter it indoors.

The serve is an obvious response, but it's also his elasticity. Turin doesn't play as fast, which should give Zverev enough time to track down some balls. Alcaraz is prone to overhitting at times, and if the German manages to keep him out of rhythm with his serve, he'll have some chances.

Prediction:

That is how his wins against Alcaraz came; mostly due to Alcaraz failing to find any kind of fluidity in his game. I predict that will happen again but not because of Zverev.

Alcaraz missed Basel and lost in the first match in Paris due to injuries and I think it hurts him. He lost to Zverev in the only indoors match they played, and I think he will again back the German.

Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets.
