Rafael Nadal will likely play at Roland Garros but fans didn't take the news of him pulling out of Rome that well.

Many hoped to see Rafael Nadal play in Rome next week but the Spaniard pressed pause on those dreams when it became known that he won't play at the event. It means that he won't play in any events leading up to Roland Garros which doesn't instill too much optimism in many people.

Toni Nadal confirmed a few weeks ago that Nadal will play in Paris but injuries are tricky and you never know what might happen. It's likely that he plays but he might also miss the event if some sort of setback happens leading up to it. Speaking about the Spaniard in a conversation with Eurosport, Bjorn Borg said:

Rafa is a good friend of mine. I know he’s struggling a little bit with his body, I’ve known that for a long time. Unfortunately, he’s not going to play Rome, but we want to see him at the French Open. If he’s not going to be fit, he’s not going to play.

Like most of us, Borg has no inside information and doesn't know what will happen. As he said above, if Nadal is fit he will play at the event and if he's not he won't. It's really that simple but he has a strong hope that Nadal will be present at the event because it truly is not the same without the King of Clay who built his legend inside those court lines.

But Rafa is Rafa, he’s one of the greatest ever to play the game. I hope he is going to play the French Open.

We won't have to wait for too much longer to find out what ultimately happens but fans around the world are hoping to see Nadal play on Phillipe Chatrier.
