Nadal's Recovery Taking Too Long Because Of Age Suggests Petkovic

Rafael Nadal's recovery is not going as well as he hoped and it was confirmed by the Spaniard himself in a recent update.

Nadal provided an update recently from Mallorca. He explained that his recovery didn't go as well as his initial prognosis had it which caused the delay in his return. He was supposed to make his return much earlier but the process took longer than he had hoped.

Former player Andrea Petkovic talked about Nadal and his recovery during a recent appearance on the Tennis Channel and the German talked about his age as the reason for a slow recovery. As much as he is a spectacular athlete and in shape his body is no longer that of a 25-year-old old.

I think we're tip-toeing around it a bit, but the thing that comes into play is age. Unfortunately, it is age. That's why it takes so much longer to recover [from] an injury that we initially thought would take six to eight week. Now it's become longer and longer.

Even with the slow recovery and lack of playing time recently, Petkovic is pretty confident that Nadal will be able to produce a really good level if he finds himself on the red dirt of Roland Garros. Petkovic even went as far as to call him the favourite for the event which isn't so shocking because several people consider him as such.

He's still the best on clay and if he shows up at Roland Garros, he’s still the favorite to win. So hopefully we'll get to see him in Roland Garros and if not there, [then] soon back on the [ATP] tour. But I do think it's tough when you pull out of Rome and there are literally no matches going into Roland Garros.

Certainly you hope that for Rafa, it means that he's a hundred percent or maybe right there, and he just wasn't quite ready for Rome but he will be ready for Paris.
