Carlos Alcaraz wished that he was a teenager a bit longer to get some more records after he turned 20 on Friday.
Alcaraz has been one of the most impressive teenagers in tennis in a long time and in his final match as a teen he defeated Karen Khachanov in Madrid. The Spaniard established himself as a complete player with no weaknesses early on, something that many in the tennis circles both recognized and highlighted.
Due to breaking out at a young age, Alcaraz was able to hit some incredible milestones such as becoming the youngest number one ever and he would not have minded staying a teenager for a bit longer to create some more records.
Well, I would like to be a teenager a little bit more, you know, for the stats. No, I mean, I don't feel any difference, you know, to turn 20 right now. Well, I'm just been the same person. I don't feel more adult or with more experience just for turn 20. I don't feel the difference right now.
That dream is over as he turned 20 on yesterday but his career will certainly present him with more chances to create history. Roland Garros is coming up and he is one of the favourites to win the event and that would put his grand slam total to 2.
He's a better player than he was last year. More confident, more complete and even he noticed some changes admitting recently that he's reading the match better. His focus is good and his body feels good too and that's all you can really ask as a tennis player.
I read the match better than the Carlitos last year, and I would say that's the most important thing for me, to play at the same level, to be in the same concentration all the match, and have a good physical feeling, you know. For me, that was the key and the difference from the Carlitos last year.
