Carlos Alcaraz played his second singles match at the Hopman Cup and once again proved victorious taking down Borna Coric.

Alcaraz has been playing some really solid tennis in Nice and he proved it today again by beating Coric in straight sets. The first match at the Hopman Cup was very tough for Spaniard but he still managed to pull out a win in three sets.

He started to play better towards the end of that match and that continued to do that in this one as he was able to power past a solid but not spectacular Coric. The opening set went Alcaraz's way but it wasn't a bad one from Coric. He just allowed one break chance to Alcaraz and the Spaniard used it.

The second set was far closer overall as Coric took an early lead, one he couldn't hold for long but he showed himself in a positive light. Alcaraz had plenty of chances to break overall but Coric was pretty solid in holding his serve.

We entered a tiebreak, a closely contested one and one that actually, Borna Coric won in the end 8-6. Alcaraz had some decent chances in this one but he played it a bit too loose which Coric used to send us into the match tiebreak.

This was a crucial match for Spain because Masarova was easily beaten by Donna Vekic earlier in the day which meant that Alcaraz needed to win this one. The loss of the second set sharpened Alcaraz's focus quite a bit in the match tiebreak and he came out strongly taking a 5-1 lead.

There was a palpable fire in him to try and win the match for his country and ultimately he got it done, winning 6-3, 6-7(6), 10-5, and setting up other crucial mixed doubles to match. It didn't work last time against Belgium but perhaps this time things will work out better.
