Carlos Alcaraz lost his first-ever ATP Finals match and promised to do better in the future as he deals with 'mental exhaustion.'
It's been a very long year for most players, especially Carlos Alcaraz, who had a pretty roller coaster one. There were some incredible highs, such as the one at Wimbledon, but also some pretty big lows, such as the defeat to Daniil Medvedev at the US Open, where he really didn't play well.
He's now facing some more challenges at the ATP Finals, where he battles 'mental exhaustion', something every player deals with. It's pretty tough to motivate yourself this late in the year, but it's part of maturing. We have to remember that Alcaraz is still pretty new to all of this.
It has been a very long, very demanding year. I have to improve to reach this point of the year in better condition, especially on a mental level. This tiredness and mental exhaustion is probably due to a fairly high demand for so long
Like many greats, Alcaraz will pretty soon start to pick and choose his spots in the calendar. It makes total sense if you want to maximize your efforts at the events that matter most to those players, such as the Grand Slams.
Novak Djokovic has been extremely good at doing exactly that for many years now. It comes with experience, and that's what Alcaraz still lacks, but it will come.
He'll learn and improve the more he plays. We'll see what happens in his next ATP Finals match against Andrey Rublev, which he really needs to win if he wants to advance.
If I ever want to win this tournament, if I want to finish the year as No.1, I have to improve and reach this point in the year calm, well and wanting to win everything that is thrown my way.— <br>
