Angelique Kerber is gearing up for a comeback, and her United Cup teammate Alexander Zverev backed her for a great comeback.

Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber did their best for a long time to represent German tennis to the best of their ability, but in the past year, Zverev was largely on his own. Kerber had taken some time off because of her pregnancy, but she's gearing up for a comeback in a few weeks.

She will play a couple of events before the Australian Open including the United Cup, where she'll team up with Alexander Zverev once more. They played in events like this together in the past, and Zverev is actually very excited about it.

In a recent interview with German publication BILD, Zverev talked about Kerber backing her for a very strong comeback. He actually talked to her, and she confirmed that she's getting up to speed with her practice.

You have to see that she wasn’t injured. Pregnancy is something different. When she’s fit, she’s still one of the best in the world. When you're out for a year and a half, it's not easy to come back. I spoke to her, she is already training very, very hard and is already fully prepared. It’s going to be good.

Zverev on Kerber

Reports from all sides are saying that Kerber is looking really good, and it's good to see Zverev confirming that. Fans are very excited to see the veteran back, and after all, mothers have been quite spectacular on the WTA Tour in recent years.

Her compatriot Tatjana Maria made a deep run at Wimbledon, so it's not impossible that Kerber put together some amazing performances as well. As Zverev said, she wasn't injured, and that should help with getting back to things.

Time will tell, but mark your calendars. January, United Cup with Zverev and Kerber for Germany.
