Carlos Alcaraz will be playing in yet another final after he defeated Daniel Evans in the 2023 Barcelona Open semifinal.
The 19-year-old has a lot of titles to defend this season. He lost in the final in Rio, and couldn't defend his title in Miami but both of those matches were plagued by an injury on Alcaraz's side, and he won titles in Buenos Aires and Indian Wells where he was 100% healthy.
Now, he has a chance to defend another trophy, this time in Barcelona where he won last year after winning two matches on the final day. In the semifinals, the Spaniard took on Dan Evans from the United Kingdom and he showed that he really likes to play in front of the home fans as he was dominant as he usually is.
In the first set, the Spaniard was very good on his serve, having to face only one break point and racking up three aces. On the other hand, the Brit struggled when he faced two break points and his opponent used both of his chances to seal the first set 6-2.
The second set was very similar to the first one but this time, after two breaks from Alcaraz, we saw one re-break from Evans who still wanted to fight for the final spot, but after the Spaniard broke again, he couldn't do anything but congratulate his opponent who won the match 6-2, 6-2.
In the final, the Spanish prodigy will take on the second highest-ranked player at the event, world no. 5, Stefanos Tsitsipas who had to fight in three sets against Lorenzo Musetti earlier today but won the match and set up a fourth meeting on the ATP Tour against Alcaraz. He never won a match against the young Spaniard and his last defeat came in Barcelona exactly one year ago.
