Less than a full week after his Wimbledon win, Carlos Alcaraz will return to the courts for the Hopman Cup where he'll play his first mixed doubles match.
A few days ago Carlos was contesting the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic. It was a dramatic 5-setter though a positive outcome for the Spaniard who defeated Djokovic in the final and won the match. His schedule after the match was very packed, he did multiple interviews in London and then finally made his way back home.
Now he's back at it again as the Spaniard will play for Spain at the Hopman Cup. Initially, Alcaraz was supposed to play with Paula Badosa but she withdrew from the event due to an injury sustained at Wimbledon. Alcaraz himself might have used some more off time but he's never going to say no to playing tennis, especially if he can do it for his country.
The Hopman Cup will see him and Rebeka Masarova play against Belgium in hopes of giving their country the victory. To get there the Spaniard might need to win a mixed doubles match, a first when it comes to his career.
While he's played doubles before, the Spaniard never played a mixed doubles match before and this will be his first one. Obviously, if the score is 1-1 after the match then it will be a high-stakes match but he loves to play those so shouldn't be a problem.
There aren't many chances to play mixed doubles matches in tennis. For example, his countryman Rafael Nadal never played a mixed doubles match which is an incredible stat considering how long his career has been. When it comes to Alcaraz, he'll do it today and the hope is that it's a win. He's going to play a few more, especially if Spain keeps winning and going all the way.
