Alcaraz & Rune To 'Carry Tennis For Decade To Come' According To Djokovic

by Sebastian Dahlman

Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz are the two teenagers at this year's ATP Finals, and they're the future of tennis, according to Novak Djokovic.

The Serbian himself is the present of tennis as he's still the dominant force in the sport. He just bested the entire field in Paris to win yet another trophy and ensure he will finish as world number one. Considering his age and the fact that he's a decade older than most competitors makes it even more impressive than it is.

After all, you have to remember that the Top 10 is not devoid of talent, as we have the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune; players who bested Djokovic this year. They are the future of tennis, according to the man himself, who spoke fondly about both in a conversation with the ATP ahead of the ATP Finals in Turin.

Holger has his debut in the [Nitto ATP] Finals. Obviously, along with [Carlos] Alcaraz, they are the same generation, one of the leaders of the Next Gen and probably one of the players that will carry the tennis in the decade to come. We’re going to see a lot of him I'm sure in the future.

He's got Boris Becker, the legend of the game in his corner now and he's been improving himself as well. Every time we face each other, it's a close match, so I'll probably have to expect that one again.

Djokovic is obviously right about that, but they're not the only players that will carry tennis. Soon enough, new names will emerge, and there is also Jannik Sinner, a player who is a bit older than them but still very much on the right side of 30.

This upcoming event will be huge for all of them as they'll have a chance to prove it on the tennis courts. The 2023 ATP Finals start on November 12th and the final will be played on November 19th.
