'It Is Never Money': Sinner Not Focused On 'Profit' On His Tennis Journey

Jannik Sinner is not motivated by money, according to the man himself, who spoke with Italian media ahead of his ATP Finals debut.

Even though Sinner played at the ATP Finals two years ago as an alternate, we are going to call this his proper debut to give credit to the amazing season he had. It's been truly a great one where Sinner proved that he beat some of the best players regularly as he bested Medvedev, for example, in two finals.

This upcoming event will be special for him. It will be on home soil, which he doesn't get to experience often. The media interest in Italy is high as Sinner sat down with Corriere della Serra to talk about his career and expectations of Turin.

For tennis I left home at 13. It gives me positive and negative emotions, joys and sorrows. It gives me everything. I reject the concept of being a company: my concern is not profit, it is never money. If they were, I would always play, I would accept the performances, I wouldn't take breaks.

On the contrary, I'm interested in eating well, sleeping the right hours, eating at home whenever I can, and being ready on the field the next morning. Ready to improve.

Sinner further expanded on the choices a player has to make, which is some time to skip a few events here and there. He's been criticized in the Italian media for skipping over Davis Cup duties, hurting Italy's chances at a time when they have a couple of really solid players. He will begin against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

If I don't play the Master 1000 in Madrid or the Davis Cup, and I understand that the fans may be upset about it, it's because I'm in Monte Carlo working my ass off. My goal isn't to make money; it's to become the best version of me possible. Number one in the world? Well, we'll see. Maybe #4 is my limit. I want to find out. And to do that I have to say no to something, otherwise the season becomes interminable’.
