Carlos Alcaraz shared how he thrives during chaotic moments on the court, propelling him to the Barcelona Open quarterfinal.
The young Spanish sensation has been showcasing his exceptional ability to adapt and excel under pressure throughout his young career but also at the 2023 Barcelona Open. Despite the challenging conditions, including strong winds and stiff competition, Alcaraz's performance remains unshaken as he beat Roberto Bautista Agut to advance to the quarterfinals.
After defeating fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round, Alcaraz opened up about how he feels comfortable in moments of chaos on the court. According to the rising star, the key to his success lies in his ability to "flow and play at a good level," focusing on doing his best no matter the circumstances.
"The conditions were difficult, with a lot of wind, it was difficult to adapt. In the first games I tried to be myself, but given today's circumstances I had to change, work more on point."
Alcaraz's willingness to adjust his playing style to adapt to the situation has been a game-changer. By embracing the chaos, he has been able to maintain his composure and execute his shots effectively.
"When I've seen myself down in the second set I haven't felt pressure. In those kinds of moments of chaos I feel comfortable. You have to flow and play at a good level, I always focus on it, on doing my best and see what happen."
As Alcaraz prepares to face 10th-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, he remains confident in his ability to rise above the challenges. With both players being familiar with each other's game styles, the upcoming match is anticipated to be an exciting battle between the two.
"With Alejandro Davidovich Fokina we know each other a lot despite never having played, we've trained several times together. It's going to be a very nice match, we're two youngsters who are playing good tennis, tomorrow's match is going to be very good."
