Carlos Alcaraz revealed his plans to make his debut at the 2023 Italian Open in Rome, which is an ATP 1000 event.

Last year, Alcaraz took home the titles at both the Barcelona Open and Madrid Open but did not participate in the Italian Open, as he never had a chance to play in Rome in the past. This year, after securing another victory in Barcelona and reaching the semifinals in Madrid, he confirmed his plans to play also in the Italian capital.

Speaking to the press after his latest victory, which was also his last win as a teenager, the 19-year-old confirmed that despite missing the event in the past, there are no such plans set for the 2023 season and that he plans to play in Rome.

"Yeah, my plan is going to Rome. Well, it depends here and how I finish this tournament, but yeah, I would love to play in Rome. This is a tournament that I really want to play. Right now this is my plan."

The Italian Open, officially known as the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, is one of the most highly regarded events in the ATP calendar. It is held annually at the Foro Italico in Rome and is the perfect preparation for the upcoming French Open, given its clay court surface. In 2023, it starts on May 10th.

Aside from his remarkable achievements on the court, Alcaraz has become known for his signature drop shot, which has left many opponents scrambling. When asked about this particular shot and its incredible success, he explained:

"I don't know (smiling). Well, this is something that I did a lot when I was young. I feel really comfortable on that shot. Yeah, is a really good weapon for me. Honestly, I just feel it, the dropshot. Yeah, good percent, it's good for me, but in the practice I try not to do a lot of dropshots. I just feel it on the match."
