Carlos Alcaraz is playing tennis on a pretty special level right now, however, he doesn't really think of himself as anything but a normal guy.
Having tremendous success in life generally creates a narrative that people change and become quite narcissistic. It's not the case with Alcaraz, who is keeping his humble nature despite historic amounts of success at a very early age.
The Spaniard is a Grand Slam champion, multi-title winner, and is cruising towards what might end up being his second Madrid Open trophy. It would be his third ATP Masters 1000 trophy, and he just turned 20 recently.
It's been quite an overwhelming experience because his popularity has skyrocketed since then. He's pretty much one of the most popular tennis players in the world, not only in Spain. However, he still stays down to earth as he revealed when talking to the Tennis Channel.
"I felt so much love in the practice, in the matches. It's almost full everywhere, for me it's unbelievable. I can't believe honestly, the love that I receive from all the people. Let's say I live normal, I am a normal kid. Obviously, people stop me and ask me for a picture, but yeah, I'm normal."
Much of why fans want to see the Spaniard has to do with the way he plays tennis, as he's very aggressive, he's a superior athlete capable of incredible shots, and it's just a great spectacle to see.
Being in love with the game and leaving it all on the court certainly helps with getting people more invested in both his matches and him personally. Even so, he didn't change crediting his parents for keeping him grounded through this process.
"Well, I'm a normal guy. I think that I'm not really, really famous, you know. Yeah, I will always be the same person, you know, with my people, my parents, you know. I think my parents did a great job, you know when I was really young. Nothing happens to me. You know, I will always be the same. Nothing changed for me."
