Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula continued their stellar doubles season by securing the Madrid Open semi-finals.

Gauff and Pegula have been playing super solid doubles tennis for much of this year. It started early at the Australian Open, where they made the semi-final, narrowly missing out on the final.

They continued their great form at the Qatar Open in Doha, where they actually proved better than the competition, winning the trophy. After struggling a bit in Dubai and Indian Wells, they returned to winning ways in Miami.

At the Miami Open, the pairing again played that signature style, making the final, and bested Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend in straight sets to win a second trophy this year.

Now, they hope to do the same on clay, where they had some really good showings in the past. Both are pretty fine clay players and together, they’re even better. So far, it’s been going really well, as they made it through to the semi-finals in Madrid.

Their opponents were Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani. It was an exciting match because it went the distance, and fans in the Spanish capital saw three sets. The opening set saw the American combo prove better, winning it 6-4.

There were chances on both sides, but ultimately, the Americans did better by holding serve and deservedly won the set. The second set saw their opponents battle back to win the set. Gauff and Pegula had some minor chances early to take a break but missed out on it and struggled towards the end of the set, losing their serve twice to lose the set 3-6.

They needed to do much better in the decider, and they did, even though it wasn’t simple. The first few points were close, but eventually, they jumped out to a 7-3 lead and closed it out to win the final set 10-5, winning the match 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. Up next, they will take on Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
