Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula didn't have the success that they expected at the 2023 Miami Open in singles, but they made up for it in double.

The doubles event at the 2023 Miami Open was far from a traditional one as there was a gap of five days between Gauff and Pegula's second-round match and their quarterfinal match. Then, they had to play two matches on the same day but eventually, they secured the final spot.

In the final, they took on Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend, who teamed up for the Sunshine Double and played exceptionally throughout both events. It was the last match of the 2023 Miami Open and the crowd enjoyed it as the level remained high from start to finish.

Both teams held onto their service games in the first set, but Gauff and Pegula had troubles in the eleventh game, and their opponents took advantage of it. Yet, the American duo broke back in the next game, despite facing a set point.

Therefore, the first set had to be decided in a tie-break. The second-seeded duo controlled it from start to finish and despite losing their lead a couple of times, Gauff and Pegula won the first-set tie-break 8-6.

With one set to their name, the Americans were sure that they will get a shot to play at least the third-set super tie-break if they lose the second set. But naturally, they wanted to finish it off in two sets and that's exactly what they did.

Fernandez and Townsend won their first game on serve, but their opponents dominated the rest of the second set. Gauff and Pegula got two breaks and that was enough to win the set 6-2 and capture their second title of the 2023 season.

Previously, the duo triumphed at the 2023 Qatar Open in Doha and their win in Miami means that they will strengthen their place in the Top 10 of the WTA Doubles Rankings even further. Currently, Gauff is ranked 3rd with Pegula right behind her in 4th.
