2023 Madrid Open ATP Draw with Alcaraz, Medvedev, Zverev & more

| by Zachary Wimer

The ATP draw was released for the 2023 Madrid Open which will run from April 26th to May 7th, 2023 at La Caja Magica.

Last year, Carlos Alcaraz lifted the trophy in Madrid after he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final. This year, both of the players are back to the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid and the young Spaniard is ready to defend his title after his recent triumph in Barcelona, which preceded also last year's win.

But this year's event has been plagued by many withdrawals. It started when Rafael Nadal announced that he won't be playing, and soon after him, fellow 22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic also pulled out of the event. With two of the greatest players ever, the draw opens up for other players.

The top 32 seeds at the tournament received a bye in the first round in a new 96-player format, and so they will start already in the second round. The first-seeded Carlos Alcaraz will be surely the name to watch as he'll start against either Emil Ruusuvori or Ugo Humbert.

The second seed is Daniil Medvedev and he will have a difficult second-round challenge as he can take on fellow former world no. 1 Andy Murray or a qualifier. But he won't be the only player with a difficult draw. The fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will await the winner of the match between Dominic Thiem and Kyle Edmund.

The sixth-seeded Holger Rune, who triumphed in Munich this week, will await Daniel Elahi Galan or Alexander Bublik. Fellow Scandinavian, Casper Ruud from Norway will play against one of the qualifiers and the fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev will also face a challenge in a three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka or Maxime Cressy.
