The race for tennis immortality is heating up, and Novak Djokovic is just one step away from matching the legendary Serena Williams' record of 23 Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic, who currently holds 22 major titles, which is the same amount as his biggest rival Rafael Nadal, has been vocal about how the retired tennis icon has inspired him to reach new heights in his career.

In a recent interview with CNN, Djokovic shared his admiration for Williams and said that she's an inspiration for him. The American ended her career with 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, despite playing four more major finals after winning her last Grand Slam. Eventually, she ended her career with one major less than Margaret Court, who has 24.

“She keeps, keeps inspiring myself, all the tennis players around the world. And she’s been really an icon of our sport for so many years.”

Serena Williams' illustrious career, which spanned over two decades, left an indelible mark on tennis history. Throughout her career, Williams has been an inspiration to many, both on and off the court, and one of those is also Djokovic.

One thing that the two share right now is surely an interest in investing opportunities. Both Djokovic and Williams are aware of how important it is to take care of their lives after their careers and especially the 23-time Grand Slam champion has been very active in this area after her retirement. Speaking about his interests, the Serb said:

“I’ve been trying to be sensitive and conscious about the fact that I have to start preparing my future as early as possible and surrounding myself with smart people who have the experience of being in that journey, in that area, in that sector that I’m interested in for quite some time because I’m new.”
