Retired tennis legend Serena Williams is set to make an appearance in Remy Martin's Super Bowl commercial.
Williams has been retired for nearly six months. She bid farewell to professional tennis at last year's US Open after losing in the third round to Ajla Tomljanovic. Her retirement ceremony was among the most emotional in the sport's history.
Many consider Williams to be the best women's tennis player ever. Although she finished one Grand Slam short of Margaret Court's record of 2024, the standard produced by the American at her best is undoubtedly unprecedented.
Although her retirement is still recent, speculation has persisted that the 41-year-old will return to tennis. Williams refused to rule it out when asked about that possibility during last year's US Open.
However, her father, Richard Williams, recently revealed that he tried to convince Serena to play in more tournaments, but she refused because she wanted to move on from professional tennis for good and focus on other areas.
Whether Serena ever returns to professional tennis will not impact her status as one of the world's most marketable athletes. Her scheduled appearance in a Super Bowl commercial demonstrates this.
The 60-second ad spot, "Inch by Inch," is a Remy Martin commercial that will air during the first quarter of the Super Bowl on February 12, 2023. The teaser shows Williams wearing a gold varsity jacket and being served a drink at a bar.
In a conversation with PEOPLE, Williams praised the French firm for its core values of generosity, authenticity, and teamwork, which she said aligned with her principles.
"I am honored and excited to be able to work with Rémy Martin, whose core values are so similar to my own personal principles. Rémy Martin is a brand based on generosity, authenticity, and teamwork, all qualities that I have taken great strides to incorporate in my life and my career."
"Together, we’re incredibly excited to inspire others with ‘Inch by Inch’ and team up in pursuit of excellence, which is a message that has always resonated with me and I'm sure will resonate with viewers nationwide."
