2023 Wimbledon Championships champion Marketa Vondrousova and runner-up Ons Jabeur shared a nice moment as the Tunisian was leaving the court following the trophy ceremony.
Finals are the pinnacle of a sport, but they're also a very emotional event in itself. There is a winning side and a losing side which means that we'll see two diametrically different sides of the emotional spectrum. Sometimes the winners cry too, so we see the same picture, but it's a very heavy affair generally.
The 2023 Wimbledon Championships certainly proved that once more as we saw Ons Jabeur crying after receiving the runner-up trophy. It was a tough one for the Tunisian who received her 3rd runner-up trophy at a Grand Slams, and while it's nice to look at, it's still technically the lesser trophy to receive.
As a very bubbly personality, Jabeur is rather beloved on the WTA Tour. Most players get along with her very well and Vondrousova had some encouraging words for her opponent as they embraced once more before the Tunisian left the court.
The beautiful moment was caught by Wimbledon cameras showing the player's embrace one final time before Jabeur was sent off with huge applause. Moments like those make you realize how deeply these players are affected by their results. Yes, it's a game, and it's all fun, but for those directly involved, it's their dreams, their goals, and hours of hard work.
Finals are when it all becomes amplified; the joy, the hurt, the happiness, and the sadness. Still, it's nice to see players showing respect to each other because nobody knows better what the other goes through. They all work hard but not all get to leave the court with the big trophy. In the brutality of life, sometimes your best is simply not good enough.
