WATCH: Swiatek Accepts 2022 Women's ITF World Champion Award

Iga Swiatek was named Women's ITF World Champion and she received her trophy sending a thank you message while playing at Wimbledon.

A young Iga Swiatek probably never thought that she would receive the same award as Rafael Nadal in the same year. Well, it happened as the WTA number one received the Women's ITF World Champion Award for the 2022 season.

Rafael Nadal got it on the men's side after his iconic 2022 season that saw him win two Grand Slam trophies. Swiatek herself won two Grand Slams last year and referenced her unexpected year when she was named the recipient of the award.

This was a big year for me, and such significant awards show me how far I've come. I appreciate it and I want to thank the ITF. It wouldn’t have happened without my team, my family, and my fans from Poland and all over the world. Consider it our joint award for amazing adventures on court in 2022.

Swiatek after being named the award winner

The Polish superstar is currently in London competing at the Wimbledon Championships and it's been going well for her. She's in the second week after overcoming an inspired effort from Belinda Bencic. She had to save two match points in that match. To show her appreciation, Swiatek recorded a thank you message after finally getting the award.

"I wanted to thank you for this beautiful award. I'm very happy that all the work that I'm doing on court, and also off court, is being appreciated and it's really inspiring me to work even harder. Sorry, I can't be with you tonight, but obviously I'm at Wimbledon. So, I hope you have fun and enjoy this evening. I'll enjoy this award and everything me and my team has done this season. Thank you for your support."
