Venus Williams hasn't played many matches this year (4) but she got her second win, against Camila Giorgi no less 7-6(5) 4-6 7-6(6).

It's been a very rocky few years for Venus Williams who is likely playing her final year on the WTA Tour. She didn't confirm anything regarding that but recently admitted that she was done with doubles which makes many believe that her singles career is pretty much at an end.

Serena's former coach and a person who knows her very well thinks it's going to happen this year at the US Open and it makes sense. Her sister did the same and it looked like a very fitting end. For now, she's playing tennis and she's playing very good tennis as she confirmed at the 2023 Birmingham Clasic.

Her comeback at the Libema Open last week was watched by her sister Serena but it was a losing effort as she ran out of gas against a much younger opponent. She faced a younger opponent this time around as well but proved quite resilient. An early medical timeout for knee issues didn't stop her. A nasty fall sometime later didn't stop her either and she emerged victorious out of a match that lasted over three hours.

Venus was playing really well for much of this set though her opponent helped a bit as well. Giorgi is notorious for playing herself out of matches due to her distinctive playstyle which she never changes even when it doesn't work. Venus took the opening set in the tiebreak 7-5 despite having a break in hand for much of the opening set.

She looked in discomfort for much of it but kept battling even when things didn't go that well in the second set. Giorgi was able to take an early double break lead in that one and despite losing one of them, the Italian held on to win it 6-4. The final set opened well for Venus who worked her way to a break point and then converted it for a 2-0 lead.

She lost the lead when she served for the match but rallied to win her next service game avoiding complete disaster. Giorgi set up the tiebreak and eventually, Venus Williams got it done. Three hours and 16 minutes. Respect!
