Swiatek Sheds Light On Intense Conversation With Her Team During Rain Delay At Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek wasn't expected to make a deep run at Wimbledon, but she proved better than many thought, ultimately losing to Elina Svitolina.

It was a strange match for the WTA number one as she had control for a better part of it but ultimately lost. She was up for most of the opening set, losing focus at 5-4, which was the worst possible time. Svitolina broke back and then used the somewhat erratic play of her opponent to take away the opening set 7-5.

The second set saw Swiatek jump out to an early lead once more, and once again, she couldn't hold her nerve. She would win the set anyway in the tie-breaker after coming back from 2-4 down, and many thought that she would turn it around. The complete opposite happened as she completely lost her rhythm, slamming too many balls wide.

As the roof was closing during a rain delay in between the sets, the Pole was spotted discussing some things with her box. Reporters were curious about what was said during that talk, and the top seed explained what they talked about after the match.

Well, when the roof was closing, I had a chance to talk to my coach outside the court because the break was longer and they allow the coach to come to, like, player waiting room or something. Then I wanted also to get feedback from Maciej and Daria. Well, I don't want to tell you exactly what they told me because that's kind of what we are working on the inside.

But I wasn't sure what I should focus on because I felt like I'm making pretty much the same mistakes, even though I tried to do better on some shots. I wanted some tip, what they think I should actually focus on. Sometimes when something is not working, it's hard to find a reason because there are maybe a few reasons. When somebody is looking from the outside, it may be a little bit easier to analyze.

Ultimately it didn't work as Swiatek crashed out but she was fine with losing to Svitolina. She admitted that she'll root for her as they grew close while working on a joint charity for Ukraine.
